A bigamist, stressed out by the demands of two wives, murdered his first wife after a heated quarrel and hid her body in a bed box. The incident was reported from south-east Delhi's Tughlakabad area where the couple resided in a rented flat. Police officials said the decomposed body of the wife was discovered in the bed box wrapped in a blanket at her residence in Tughlakabad Extension area last Monday.

The body was discovered after wife former live-in partner, Usman who was asked to visit her residence by her parents.

Officials revealed that the accused Suresh Singh, 26, had met the deceased 30-year old physiotherapist Maria Massey through a social networking site in 2012. The duo met in Dehradun in 2013, after which they began a live-in relationship.

Eventually Suresh married Maria in 2015 but police say that 15 days later, after pressure from his parents, he returned to his native village in Uttrakhand where he married another woman.

Maria came to know through social media that he had married again. Police said that there were frequent quarrels between the couple on this issue after which Suresh carried out the crime.

"Suresh was now inclined to be with Lata and hence smothered Maria to death and wrapped her body in a blanket and hid it in the bed-box. Since he is a physiotherapist he was aware that in cold the body takes longer to decompose," said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-East.

Meanwhile, after not having heard from their daughter Maria's parents asked Usman last Sunday. Finding it locked from outside, he then called Suresh who then sent him a text saying he and Maria were in Bengaluru. Usman came again on Monday and again finding the door locked got the door broken down on which he discovered the body. The case was then filed.

"Usman and even Maria's family members were not convinced with the replies. Despite constant pressure of the family members to speak to Maria Suresh denied them and later stopped answering their phones. Suresh had not informed anyone before leaving the residence and hence was the prime suspect in the case," said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-East.

After a case was filed, Delhi police then apprehended Suresh from his native village.
