'Bhakt' auto driver names newborn 'GST'

While people, in general, want to name their kids after famous people and celebrities, a 26-year-old auto driver has named his son as GST. Yes, you heard it right!

In July, India's biggest tax reform GST (Goods and Services Tax) after independence came into effect after 17 tumultuous years of debate, unifying more than a dozen central and state levies, but doubts remained if the transition to a national sales tax will be without any glitches.

Yaswant Singh, the auto-driver who lives in Noida Sector -63 got so much influenced with the unified tax that he named his newborn son as GST Singh Pal.

Speaking to DNA, Singh stated, "I was very much influenced by Prime Minister' Narendra Modis GST system. I also like his speeches, they are really inspirational. I wanted my son's name to be unique. None of the parents must have ever thought of naming their child as GST. I like this name very much and this will remain forever. I want my son to achieve a good education and will do everything a father can. So, what could be better than this name, so we named our newly born baby as GST," he added.

"Last year, demonetisation took place and we suffered a lot from it but now we have overcome that and have realised that the moves made by PM Modi only affected rich people. It is for the country and we support him in every way.

Earlier, I had to take a loan from my relatives also due to demonetisation but I am happy. We think demonetisation and GST will definitely be good for our country," he further added.

"We were mocked by our relatives for keeping this name but we are not going to change it. As GST brought a lot of good changes to the country, in a similar way, our son will also bring good changes to our family," he said.
