In a report sent to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) leadership, West Bengal Congress Committee (WBPCC) general secretary and party spokesperson Om Prakash Mishra had suggested that the Congress should join hands with the CPI(M) in West Bengal and maintain distance with the 'unholy nexus' of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In the nine-page report, Mishra said that in order to reclaim democracy as well as ensure defeat of BJP and TMC, the tie-up was imperative. "I have not talked about any political alliance. In fact I have said that to strengthen democracy and to oust the present disposition, Congress, Left political parties and civil societies must be brought together at a common platform in order to enlighten the citizens of West Bengal and a victory of a non-BJP, non-TMC force at the parliament, ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha election and 2021 Assembly polls in West Bengal," he said, talking to DNA.

In the report he explained the situation in the country vis-à-vis Bengal where there had been an ascent of the BJP in spite of its deteriorating popularity countrywide owing to the help it was getting from TMC.

"On the face of it, TMC leaders are making it look like they were against the BJP, but they are in the process of destroying Opposition parties like the Left Front and Congress, thus paving the way for BJP in Bengal," Mishra said and added that TMC was doing it under pressure of the Centre because of the number of cases that the TMC leaders have been involved, which are being investigated by Central investigating agencies. "CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) is a hyphen between Mamata and the BJP government," he told DNA.

In the report he also explained how severing of the electoral understanding between Congress and Left Front during the 2016 Assembly elections have affected negatively both the parties. He had also put in a 21-point suggestion of coordinated plans and programmes to help Congress regain its position in Bengal.

Mishra however, negated that there were was a confusion as far as the stand of Congress was concerned in terms with joining hands with TMC at the Centre to form a front against the BJP. "Mamata never expressed her willingness to join hands with Congress to fight with BJP. In fact she had criticised the Congress. As far as meeting Congress leaders are concerned, she is also meeting NDA leaders and TMC is not a part of UPA anymore. So it can't be clearer," he said.
