Akhilesh Pati Tripathi, who won from Model Town assembly seat in Delhi Assembly Elections 2013 is again contesting elections from the same constituency with more vigour and passion. Coming from a small town of Uttar Pradesh, Tripathi left his home in Sant Kabir Nagar and came to Delhi to become an IAS officer. Tripathi joined the Aam Aadmi Party after being associated with Anna's movement for a long time.

In a candid chat with iamin, Tripathi describes his journey as a politician so far:

What special preparations have you done for the polls?

We don’t have enough funds like other parties, therefore, we do door-to-door campaigning. We are trying to manage with the limited resources we have. We don’t put up hoardings because we believe in public participation and interaction.

Kejriwal’s resignation left many disappointed, don't you think it may affect your campaign?

People believe in Kejriwal and want those 49 days back. The pre-poll surveys have said it all. People want Kejriwal as the Chief Minister again.

Was it right for him to resign?

He resigned for ethics, morals, principles and the promises he made to the people which is absolutely justified. We formed a political party for Janlokpal, it was the basis of our entry into politics. To keep up the promises made to the people, we fought till the end and Janlokpal was the reason for our resignation.

What did you do for Model Town constituency in those seven weeks?

We had promised a fully commercial area in our manifesto for the prosperity of traders. The proposal was passed by the LG but it was not implemented as the government dissolved. I am the only MLA among the seventy who had sanctioned maximum funds for the public which is Rs 6,90,65,000.

What difference did your government make in those 49 days in Model Town which the Congress had not done earlier?

The biggest difference was that people could easily approach their MLA. I drive a scooter, live a common man's life. Public can easily approach me for any work unlike other MLAs which had ruled in the past. Secondly, electricity and water bills were reduced, there was regular supply of medicines in government hospitals, corruption was checked.
