They thought smuggling in a red beacon car would save them from coming under the police's radar. But the Delhi Police's crackdown on beacon users, after the PM announced its ban, landed the gang in the police net.

Three persons have been arrested and two cars have been recovered from them which were being used frequently to supply illicit liquor from Haryana to various parts of the Capital.

According to police, two of the men Rahul Chauhan (24) and Sadiq Ali (22) were in the beacon car, an Innova, and Sanjay Sharma (30) was driving a white Maruti Swift.

The matter first came to light on Saturday, when at around 4 am, the Innova with the red beacon and the Swift arrived at B Block in northeast Delhi's Nand Nagri area.
Receiving a tip-off about some suspicious involvement of the two vehicles, a police team led by Subodh Kumar Goswami, ACP, Nand Nagri, acted swiftly and overpowered the occupants of the car. The two cars were found carrying 4,272 bottles of illicit liquor.

"After interrogation, the trio replied that they had been transporting liquor made in Haryana to various parts of the Capital. They also told police they had thought that the beacon would help them pass through police barricades without any hassles," said Ajit Singla, DCP, northeast.
