The families of the Bawana fire victims held a silent protest in front of the Rohini court on Tuesday morning. Their demands were to get the case in the fast-track court and to punish the people responsible for their loss.

A fire had broken out in the storage unit of a cracker factory on the ground floor of the two-storey building in Bawana on January 20 and had engulfed the entire structure. Of the 17 killed, 10 were women and a man and a woman were also injured in the incident.

" It has been six months and the accused are still roaming free, while many of the families lost their sole bread-earners. We request the respected court and the chief minister to look into the matter and deliver justice. We also demand the case should be taken up by the fast track court as soon as possible," Kusum Rathore, who was leading the movement.

The protesters want the chargesheet in the case to be filled again and that the accused to be punished.

According to the relatives of victims present in the protest, though the compensation has been announced by the government and other parties, nothing has come to their aid yet."The CM and the MLAs came and announced compensation after that no one came for further action. The victims were mostly women and girls but still, the families have not been offered any help by either the Mahila Aayog or any women organisation," said Mohammad Irshad, member of an NGO leading the protest.

Akshit and Madina lost their mother in the fire but standing in front of the court they hoped for justice for her. After the death of the only breadwinner of the family, these people are in deep sorrow which is increased due to delay in justice, more than the compensation they want the accused to be punished.

"The police are working very slow on the case. Even the supplementary chargesheet has not been filed against the accused. Which is why today the victims family protested in front of Rohini court to demand fast-track court. We don't want the case to go on for 15-20 years because of delayed action by the police" said advocate Rishi Pal, representing victims and their families in case.
