The Delhi government is all set to inaugurate the three loops of Barapullah flyover on Sunday. The stretch is expected to save up to 35 minutes of thousands of motorists, coming from Noida and east Delhi and going towards south Delhi. This will also save Noida commuters the hassle of a long U-turn at Sarai Kale Khan.

"Three loops on Barapullah will be opened on Sunday, which will immensely help in reducing the traffic congestion in south Delhi. The first loop begins from Sidharth Nagar. People coming from Ashram Chowk can use this loop to go towards Aurobindo Marg and avoid the Ring Road. Those coming from DND can use the loop to go directly towards INA, instead of coming to the Ring Road. This will reduce the travel time by 30 minutes," said a Public Works Department (PWD) official.

He further said the slip road connecting the DND flyway with Barapullah elevated corridor will save commuters a drive of nearly 3km, and the loops will be inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The Ring Road stretch from Gurudwara Bala Sabib to Sarai Kale Khan has also been decongested. PWD has constructed another loop for buses going inside the ISBT Sarai Kale Khan, so that they can directly go to the bus stand. With this, the Ring Road stretch near Sarai Kale Khan will be decongested. The loop, however, will only be operational after the new terminus is fully constructed.

The stretch remains heavily congested at any point of the day. The situation aggravates during the morning and evening peak hours. An estimated 1.5 lakh commuters use this stretch every day.

These loops are part of Phase II of Barapullah, which has been completed at a total cost of Rs 532 crore. The officials added that Phase III, which will extend the Barapullah to Mayur Vihar Phase I, is still under construction and is estimated to cost Rs 1,000 crore to the Delhi government.

"The final loop is a small ramp near Jangpura, which will facilitate the traffic coming from INA or JLN Stadium and going towards the CGO complex, Lodhi road and ITO. The traffic coming from INA side will go directly to CGO complex via Lala Lajpat Nagar Marg through this loop and Lodhi Road, and Aurbindo Marg will be decongested because of this," said an official.
