A 35-year-old Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) panchayat member and builder from Uttar Pradesh was shot dead allegedly by two unidentified men in southeast Delhi's Jamia Nagar on Monday, the police said. The deceased has been identified as Dilshad Khan. He resided in the Joga Bai Extension in Jamia Nagar. After Khan's death people of the area staged a protest and demanded immediate arrest of the accused, the police said.

According to the relatives of the deceased, he had received a call in the evening asking him to come to a specific place. He left his house around 5 pm and had gone only a few kilometres in the area when two persons, who were wearing helmets and were on foot, fired four rounds at him and fled the crime scene. The police were informed about the incident at 6.05 pm, following which Dilshad was rushed to Holy Family Hospital where he died during the course of treatment, said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast).

According to his nephew Adil, Khan was sent to jail some weeks ago after a fight with some people. " We suspect the involvement of those people behind his murder. There was some monetary issue after which they had registered a case. He had just returned from jail 10 days ago," said Adil.

"A case had been registered and an investigation is underway. We are scanning the CCTV footages and taking help of electronic surveillance to solve the case. The investigating officials are also checking any old rivalry connection into the incident," DCP added.

Khan is survived by wife, an eight-year-old daughter, two sons, aged seven years and seven months, respectively. He was involved in real estate business in Okhla and was also related to a BSP councillor from Meerut. It is suspected that the murder was a fallout of personal enmity, the police said.
