A group of armed robbers looted over 30 kg gold and Rs 5 lakh in cash from the Manapuram Finance Company located on the busy New Railway Road of Gurugram on Thursday. Two persons — a security guard and a customer — were injured during the heist, police said.

According to eyewitnesses, at 12.15 pm, eight men came to the first floor of the bank posing as customers. When the security guard on duty, Mukesh Kumar, asked them to put their names in the visitors' register, one of them suddenly hit him with a sharp weapon on back of his head and forced him inside, while another man sprayed some paint on the CCTV camera to cover it.

Another guard, Devicharan, had a scuffle with two of the robbers, who snatched his rifle, took its cartridge, and broke the gun. The robbers, who had pistols, then took all the staffers and customers hostage and confiscated their mobile phones. The hostages were ordered to stand with their arms raised.

One of the robbers, whose face was masked with a handkerchief, took the vault keys from a staffer and took more than 30 kg gold and the cash from inside. All of them then managed to flee. Ishwar Singh, 64, a customer, said, "They had pistols and knives but no bags for their loot. They took the hostages' bags to put the gold in."

The police were then informed and medical attention was provided to the injured. Guard Mukesh Kumar, who was admitted to the Civil Hospital, said: "They came as customers and hit me with a sharp weapon. I never knew my job involved such risks." The injured customer was admitted to the Aarvy Hospital.

Police Commissioner of Gurugram, who visited the crime spot, said, "All the police stations have been alerted and we are going through the CCTV footage. The accused will be caught soon." A forensic team later collected fingerprints from the spot.
