Arjangarh metro station gets artistic makeover

Nature is all set to come alive on the walls of the Arjangarh station of the Delhi metro as it gets an artistic makeover with a special focus on indigenous flora and fauna.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has tied up with St+art India, a non-profit organisation working for the promotion of street art, to decorate the walls of the station with illustrations based on themes related to the environment.

"The paintings will primarily focus on the indigenous birds and animals found in India. The artists will also try to present the fauna of the region in the backdrop of Delhi's urban surroundings," the DMRC said.

"The project at Arjangarh is a collaboration between artists from India, Singapore, and Mexico. Placed on the Mehrauli highway, Arjangarh metro station is an important connecting bridge between South Delhi and Gurugram," it added.

The work has already started with two Singapore-based artists, Sam Lo and Soph O, painting a "gangsta version of the Myna, a native Indian bird which is also seen commonly in Delhi." Mexican artist Senkoe and an Indian artist Nilesh are also participating in the project.

The Delhi Metro has utilised its spaces previously for the promotion of art, culture, and heritage. Apart from having a museum inside the Patel Chowk station, DMRC has installed decorative panels, artwork at various stations such as Mandi House, Janpath, ITO, Udyog Bhawan, INA, Jor Bagh and Green Park.
