The Delhi University of Arts and Commerce (DCAC) on Thursday cancelled another event which BJP leader Subramanian Swamy was scheduled to attend, to release the college's annual journal Critique. The cancellation comes days after the college had postponed an event featuring Swaraj India's Yogendra Yadav.

The College has also scrapped the journal, a production of its Journalism department, for allegedly having an article on the violence that took place at Delhi University's Ramjas College recently.

Angry students at the college alleged that the journal had not been allowed to be published because it had an "objective" and "critical" piece on the Ramjas row. However, college Principal Rajiv Chopra denied the allegations saying he had only asked the students some time for "screening" before the journal got published.

"They approached me with the journal on Wednesday morning itself. Being the Principal of the college, I automatically become the Chief Editor of its annual journal. We can't publish anything without proper vetting in our annual productions. But, the students were not ready to listen, so, we had to scrap it as of now," Chopra said.

Agitated by the move, the students published another journal titled Yatharth carrying similar content. "The Principal had an issue with an article on the Ramjas clashes. He asked us to remove it from the journal. And when we refused to remove the article, that according to us was objective, he scrapped the journal," said Sadhika Tiwari, a third-year student at the college and the editor of the journal.

"Later, we decided to publish the same content with another name as we were not allowed to use the official title of the journal," she added.

On being asked about the cancellation of the event entitled 'Journalism on Trial?' that was being organised by the college's journalism department where Swamy was invited, Principal Rajiv Chopra said, "no formal invitation was extended by the college to Mr Swamy. Some students unofficially approached him and invited him to the event."

Student organisers claim otherwise. They say that the event was cancelled against the backdrop of the recent violent student clashes at Ramjas College on February 22. The clashes occurred after the cancellation of a seminar where JNU students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid had been invited. The ABVP had objected to their presence.
