Sixty-year-old Rukhmani Jarwal, mother of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Prakash Jarwal, is busy attending to the locals and neighbours, who are visiting her house after her son was arrested by the police for allegedly manhandling Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash. Even as the bail plea of the AAP MLA was rejected by the court, Rukhmani was telling everyone that "karma will win".
Sitting in the living room of her house in Tigri extension, she was waiting for her newly-wed daughter-in-law, who was in Teez Hazri Court where her husband was produced on Wednesday. "Abhi to uske hathon ki mehndi bhi nahi hati thi aur meri bahu court ke chakkar kaat rahi hai," said the mother. Jarwal, 28, the youngest party MLA married AAP Councillor from Tigri area, Jyoti Kohli on February 6.
Two AAP MLAs - Jarwal and Amanatullah Khan - were arrested after the Chief Secretary named them in his police complaint. While the Delhi Police arrested Jarwal on Tuesday night, Khan surrendered on Wednesday afternoon. "My son has been falsely implicated by those who are jealous of his work and honesty. He went there to discuss the issues of poor people and not to engage in a scuffle," said Rukhmani.
It was not only the mother but the locals too, who gathered at Jarwal's house, and vowed for the AAP leader's"innocence". "He has changed the entire landscape of this constituency. And, that's why those in the Opposition are jealous of him and are trying to malign his name," said Savita Devi, a neighbour.
Sitting next to her was angry Preeti Devi, who said,"Every day some goons kill people in Deoli and nearby Sangam Vihar but police don't arrest them. Our son is working day and night to do something for his people and he is behind the bars. Ye kahan ka insaaf hua?" she asked.
"They deliberately picked him up while he was on his way to a wedding. Police knew that his people would not even have allowed them to touch him here in Tigri," said Pankaj, who runs a grocery shop in the locality.
