The public toilets under their jurisdiction are geo-tagged and available on the app developed by the Ministry of Urban Development
Residents of the city can now locate washrooms at their fingertips with the help of mobile application, the Delhi High Court was told by the three municipal corporations on Monday.
The civic bodies, i.e. North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), informed a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Harishankar that the public toilets under their jurisdiction are geo-tagged and available on the app developed by the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD).
Appearing for the NDMC, its counsel Mini Pushkarna, informed the court that the application provided the location of washrooms, not just in the city but throughout the country. She also said that the longitude and latitude of the toilets are provided to the MoUD which updates it on its application.
The two other municipal bodies also shared the same information with the court. Appearing for Delhi Cantonment Board, its counsel said that it is an ongoing exercise as whenever a new public toilet would be built its location would be forwarded to the ministry.
The court was hearing a matter pertaining to lack of toilets for the slum dwellers of Shahbad dairy area situated in outer Delhi.
Earlier, the high court had directed the civic agencies to map and geo-tag the public toilets, thereby making them easily accessible for the people. It had said that all the other agencies shall furnish requisite information regarding the location of their public toilet facilities to the Commissioner of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation or Director of the Delhi Environment Management Services (DEMS).
