AIIMS to honour deceased doctors

The doctors were involved in a road accident on the Yamuna Expressway that killed three and left four injured.

Three days after the tragic accident that took the life of three doctors working at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the hospital announced a condolence meeting for them which will be held on Wednesday.

The bodies of the deceased - Dr Harshad Wankhede, Dr Himbala Taneja, and Dr Yashpreet Singh reached their respective hometowns in Akola, Maharashtra, Yamuna Nagar, Haryana and Fajilka, Punjab, on Monday morning. The doctors were involved in a road accident on the Yamuna Expressway that killed three and left four injured. The hospital is now holding a condolence meet for them on March 21, at 5 pm in the AIIMS Conference Hall.

"Deep condolences on the untimely and unfortunate demise of young resident doctors," said Dr Randeep Guleria, Medical Director, AIIMS. A team was constituted to provide care to the injured and assistance to the family members of resident doctors by the hospital, which comprised Dean (Acad), Dean (Research), Chief, JPNATC, Additional Medical Superintendent, JPNATC, and Registrar.

The four injured doctors – Catherine Halam, Mahesh Kumar, Jitender Mourya, and Abhinava Singh – are now recovering at the Jai Prakash Narayan Trauma Center, AIIMS.
