A day ahead of the announcement of sentence against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the Capital was put on a high alert. The Delhi Police also identified 275 sensitive points, where violence is likely to occur. The administration in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram, however, will remain functional on Monday.

According to senior officers, over 20,000 police personnel, along with Central paramilitary forces’ members, have been deployed to tackle the situation in case Singh’s supporters go on a rampage.

“We have made adequate security arrangements in all areas and have also deployed additional Delhi police personnel, along with the Central paramilitary forces, so that no untoward incident takes place after the court pronounces the sentence on Monday. We have also identified all the sensitive points and all of Singh’s supporters are on our radar,” Delhi Police spokesperson Madhur Verma said, adding that Section 144 of the CrPC, which was imposed in the city, will continue to remain in force till further orders.

According to the police, 3,800 families that are ardent followers of the self-styled godman have been identified and the community centres, where Singh’s followers organised functions, are also being checked.

“We are monitoring the movement of followers and teams have been deployed in and around all such community centres,” a senior police officer said.

The arrangements have been made in view of the violence that broke out in Punjab and spread to the national Capital, with the cops imposing curfew in the city.

Earlier on Friday, two empty coaches of the Rewa Express were set ablaze by miscreants near the Anand Vihar railway station. In addition, 11 vehicles were set on fire and other such incidents were reported from Shahadra, Loni, Manglapuri, Badarpur, and Khayala following Singh’s conviction.

Later, 10 persons were arrested for allegedly setting two DTC buses on fire and putting the lives of passengers at risk in northeast Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar area.

CP Amulya Patnaik has directed all senior officers to conduct night patrol in their areas and take action against miscreants.
