Six engineers from the Public Works Department (PWD) on Saturday joined the ongoing investigations in graft-related irregularities worth Rs 10 crore in the awarding of construction contracts to an agency owned by a relative of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

A senior officer, who is part of anti-corruption branch (ACB) investigating the scam, said engineers were questioned and their statements were in the process of being recorded. ACB has recently registered three FIRs in the scam.

Meanwhile, a complaint forwarded by a PWD assistant engineer to the local police has surfaced with the complainant alleging Surender Bansal, CM Kejriwal's now deceased brother-in-law, in damaging a drain under the jurisdiction of the PWD which he witnessed in April last year.

"During the inspection of site on April 3, 2016, it was seen that three persons were breaking the RCC box drain constructed by PWD to drain out the rainy water. I asked him not to do so," the complaint read.

"After that a person called me on phone and introduced himself as Vinay Kumar from Renu Construction and asked me do not disturb these persons and allow them to break the drain. He also threatened to kill me. I lodged a complaint to the SHO Nangloi, but no action has been taken yet. So I request you for necessary action at your level (Sic.)" the complaint further stated.

Renu Construction was being operated by Bansal and is one of the three companies under ACB's scanner on the basis of a complaint filed by the founder of Roads Anti-Corruption Organisation (RACO) Rahul Sharma. Sharma alleged irregularities in the grant of contracts for roads and sewer lines in Delhi in 2015-16.

RACO, an organisation which claims to monitor construction projects in the national capital, had alleged Renu Construction was involved in financial irregularities in building a drainage system in northwest Delhi. It had alleged that the bills sent to the PWD for the works, which were not completed, were 'false and fabricated'.
