After sweeping three seats in Delhi University's student union poll earlier this year, BJP- affiliated Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Wednesday won seven out of eleven seats in the election of Varsity's student Union's (DUSU) Executive Committee.

Three of the four remaining seats were bagged by Congress-led NSUI while an independent candidate won the fourth seat.

"Deepak Awana of PGDAV college has been elected as the Executive committee Chief with 31 votes while Tarun Dagar of Satyawati college, Nitish Tehlan of Shivaji college and Mohit of Aryabhata college among others have been elected as members of the committee," officials said.

The committee comprises eleven members of which two seats are reserved for female candidates. Sonam Sejwal of Shaheed Bhagat Singh college (evening) and Shikha Hooda of SPM college for women won the two seats. Presidents and Central Councils of more than 50 colleges of the varsity exercised their votes during the poll held on Wednesday. Every college in Delhi University has two elected Cental Councils. "DU students know that we have been constantly working for the welfare of the University and that's why they have chosen us once again over other parties," ABVP General Secretary Saket said.

Last month, ABVP swept three out of four seats in DUSU elections including the posts of President, Vice President and Secretary.
