Senior doctors at Maulana Azad Medical College(MAMC) have smelt a rat in the recent interviews held for the post of senior resident doctors for its associated hospital—Lok Nayak in Delhi. An interview for a post in the blood bank of the hospital was conducted in which out of eight eligible candidates, only two had appeared. The interview was conducted on October 10 but interestingly, the female candidate, who was apparently marked absent at the time of the interview is among the two selected candidates.

DNA has got a copy of the attendance sheet from the hospital where on one hand she has been marked absent for the interview held on October 10, but she has however been appointed. As per the sheet, her documents have been verified only on October 13, three days after the interviews took place. "This is a major goof up on the part of the administration. How can she get a job when she did not appear for the interview?" said a senior doctor from the hospital on the condition of anonymity. As per the official process, any doctor who is appearing for the interview will first have to get his/her documents verified. Once the documents are verified by the interviewers, the candidate will then appear for the final round. "We verify the degree of the doctor by Delhi Medical Council (DMC) before conducting the interviews. There is no possibility that any candidate can submit the documents later. This is a gross violation of the rules," said another senior doctor from the hospital.

When DNA spoke to the female candidate, she said. "My interview did happen on October 10 but as I reached late, the team couldn't check my documents and asked me to come later. As it was a national holiday the next day, I got my documents verified on October 13." The Delhi government's hospital has been conducting interviews for various departments. Recently, the upper age limit for senior doctors has been shifted up to 40 years from 33 years. The new changes in age criteria have also raised eyebrows among the senior faculty members. Leader of the Opposition, Vijender Gupta on October 20 also wrote a letter to LG Najeeb Jung hinting at the faulty selection procedure.

"It has also come to light that the selection procedure and the panel for selection have been manipulated in a manner to appoint people close to those in power in Delhi. It appears that first the list of doctors to be appointed has been prepared and then the criteria/selection procedure has been finalized to see that only they are selected," Gupta said in his two-page letter to LG Najeeb Jung.
