The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has planned to launch a campaign from July 1 in virtue of its statehood agenda with a symposium at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. The party plans to get signatures from ten lakh families residing in the Capital in support of granting the Union Territory the status of full statehood.
The Delhi Convener of the party, Gopal Rai, introduced the three-phased plan - "Delhi Maange Apna Haq" while addressing a press conference on Friday. The party has been demanding full statehood for Delhi for quite a long time now.
"We will take suggestions from representatives of each street to know how this state agitation can be turned into a mass movement. In the second phase, we will get signatures from ten lakh families from July 3. In the third and final stage, we will hand over the signatures to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ask him to fulfill his promise of full statehood to Delhiites," Rai stated.
The party has already prepared and printed the letters for signatures along with a two-page epistle addressed to general public describing benefits of statehood. The letter has been titled as -'Respected Prime Minister (PM), Fulfill Your Promise- Give Delhi the status of a State.'
