The sudden death of Surender Kumar Bansal, brother-in-law of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Monday brought a new twist to the tale of controversies surrounding the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The party members condemned ousted AAP MLA Kapil Mishra for levelling corruption charges against Bansal.
"He should have shown some humanity before levelling false allegations against a person who died today," Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said as he came out of the party's Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting, where the decision to suspend Mishra from the party's primary membership was taken.
"He made those shameless allegations even before the funeral flame had died down," Sisodia added.
Mishra had alleged that Health Minister Satyendar Jain helped settle land deals worth Rs 50 crore for Bansal. "Jain had told me that he had arranged a 7-acre land deal worth Rs 50 crore in Chattarpur for the Bansal family. Being the PWD minister, he also fudged bills up to Rs 10 crore to benefit Kejriwal's relative," he said.
Slamming Mishra for levelling "false" allegations against Bansal, Kejriwal's wife Sunita tweeted: "My brother-in-law is no more and this stupid man is speaking all written script without any mind."
Mishra had also claimed that Kejriwal changed after becoming the CM. "The Arvind Kejriwal we worshipped and prayed for is not the same today. The post of CM has changed him. I want to ask him one thing. Will he leave the post after Jain goes to jail?" he asked.
Earlier in the day, Mishra had said that he won't accept the PAC decision taken in a closed room. "There are four to five persons in the AAP PAC, who indulge in corruption. I had got to know that PAC will throw me out of the party in the evening. It is the people's party and people will decide who should remain in AAP," he said.
Vowing to "expose" the corrupt partymen, Mishra also gave an email id — "Letscleanaap@gmail.com" — and asked volunteers across the world to send him evidence. "I have received more than 150 corruption complaints in last two hours," he tweeted.
Mishra will approach the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday to file corruption complaints against Kejriwal and Jain.
