AAP complains to CBI against North mayor

Days after the DNA had reported a vigilance probe in allegations of corruption against North MCD mayor Preety Aggarwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders submitted a complaint to the CBI in the matter on Monday.

Senior AAP leaders including leader of opposition in North Corporation Rakesh Kumar said they have submitted a complaint listing out "elaborate details" of the alleged charges of corruption against the mayor.

The AAP had been demanding a CBI enquiry into the matter since it came to the fore last month.

The party's state unit convenor Dilip Pandey said that the BJP must ask the mayor for her resignation, else it will show its commitment to corruption.

The three municipal corporations in the Capital are ruled by the BJP. Facing anti-incumbency, the party had fielded all new candidates in the civic polls held last April in a bid for an image makeover.

"We have submitted a six-point complaint to the CBI elaborating each point of the mayor's involvement and interference in the tendering process of projects running into crores," Pandey said.

He also said that the mayor's defamation case against the party is not going to deter them from campaigning against the alleged corrupt practices in the corporation.

The mayor, following the AAP's campaign against her, had filed a defamation case against them for putting up her pictures in public places.

Pandey also challenged the BJP asking it to field Aggarwal for the post of the mayor again if they maintain she's not corrupt.

"I challenge the party to field her again. If they don't, it will mean the allegations against her were true," Pandey said.

The mayor's one-year term is going to end in April.
