Days after DNA had reported allegations of corruption against North Delhi Mayor Preeti Aggarwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP have been engaged in a turf war. While the former has been demanding the Mayor’s dismissal, Aggarwal sought an apology from AAP leaders on Thursday.

The AAP claimed that the mayor must resign as the party had “substantial evidence” against her involvement in “irregularities” in clearing tenders worth crores.

However, Aggarwal refuting the allegations, told the media that the charges levelled against her by AAP spokesperson Dilip Pandey are just to divert the attention from the allegations of corruption against Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain. She was speaking at a press conference at the Delhi BJP office at Pant Marg hours after the AAP press briefing on the issue.

However, Aggarwal maintained she had not indulged in any such activity and that she is ready for any enquiry.

“Posters bearing my image have been put up in various public places by the AAP. How can someone use my picture without taking my permission? We will initiate defamation case against it (AAP),” she said.

Pandey had called a press briefing at the party office, where he released a letter written by a senior official of the civic body to its commissioner, where he had complained about the mayor’s “interference” in the evaluation of technical bidding in a tender.

“The letter mentioned that an FIR be registered against the mayor. Is it not sufficient for the BJP to dismiss her and initiate a CBI inquiry. BJP should take cognisance of the matter,” Pandey said.
