An 88-year-old woman accidentally fell to her death from a window of an 11th floor flat in Ashiana Upvan society in Indirapuram on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Devki Devi whose body was found near Tower 2 of the society in a pool of blood by residents who were out for a morning walk. Her son Pooran Mehra, daughter-in-law, grandson and grandaughter-in-law were present in the flat at the time of the incident.

"I and a society resident were walking outside when we heard a loud thud. A fellow resident saw it from far away. We thought that it was a dog which might have fallen of the window. On a closer look, we realised that a senior resident of the society had fallen. I then called the police and other resident covered the body with sheets," said Ajay Shukla, a resident of the society.

The police said that according to the family, the deceased was senile and had shown many symptoms including forgetfulness, confusion, among others. She was also undergoing threatment for her illness. They further said that Devi somehow climbed on to a household furniture, opened a panel of the sliding window and fell outside. The window is located around 3.5 feet above the floor.

However, the police are considering it as a case of the accident and said that no complaint has been filed so far. The body was also not sent for a post-mortem examination given the senility and old age of the deceased. Devi lived in flat number 1112 of Tower 2 of the society.
