Attending calls on its helpline number has become a task for the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) that manages the security of the Delhi Metro. As many as 70 per cent of the calls received by the Force are related to recruitment in CISF, train timings, about the airport metro line, or other issues, and do not pertain to security.
The problem has become so manifest that the Force is also planning to launch a new direct helpline soon.
According to data, out of a total of 6,228 calls received this year so far on the helpline number, more than 4,200 were not security-related issues.
Senior officers say the menace has just become bigger over time but the Force is coping with it and all the callers have been directed to the concerned authorities to ensure adequate help.
"From recruitment queries to train timings and from airport line connectivity to queries about banned and prohibited items, our men handle all kinds of calls in a day. Majority of them are related to metro timings and routes," said a senior CISF officer.
"DMRC also has an enquiry helpline number for this but when we receive such calls, we try to answer their queries. If it is out of our ambit, we transfer these calls to the departments concerned for disposal. However, such calls are irrelevant for a security force and waste of time," he added.
