7 nabbed for betting during India-Australia ODI match

According to the police, the gang came been on their radar after input was received regarding betting.

For these seven men, India's victory over Australia in Thursday's one-day international was not a joyous event. Why? Because while the country was savouring the victory these men had arrested following a raid, as they were betting during the match in North West Delhi.

According to the police, the gang came been on their radar after input was received regarding betting. Following this, a team raided an identified residence in northwest Delhi. The spot enquiry revealed that an amount of Rs 1,95,535 was on betting.

"The amount won or lost by these bookies and punters was to be disbursed next day with the help of their associates. The house belongs to one Manoj Kumar Malhotra and Dinesh Kumar Malhotra both residing at the Lawrance road area regarding which investigation is in progress. It has been learnt that owner of this property had given this property on rent to one Aaditya or Nitin preparing for competitive examination and these facts remain to be verified," said a senior police officer.

Police said that the accused persons were accepting bets online as well as through mobile phones used to have recording facility for the betting participants and punters.

It was also revealed during investigation that the accused Sumit Malhotra, Ashprit Singh, Satnam Singh had downloaded online betting software called as "betting assistance software" on their laptops which showcased rates, timings and preferences of persons participating in the online betting on a cricket match, the officer added.

"In Thursday's match a total amount of Rs. 1,95,575 was on betting till the time raid was conducted as found in the initial probe after examining laptop being used by accused. The amount won and lost used to be disbursed or collected after the match. However on the personal search of the arrested accused persons yielded an amount of Rs. 27,570 only," the officer added.
