7 arrested for robbing Rs 60 lakh from businessman in Delhi's Welcome area

The Delhi police on Monday arrested seven men including an employee of the complainant who was robbed of Rs 60 lakh at gunpoint in north-east Delhi's Welcome area.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Deepak Chauhan (36), Sonu Verma (41), Jitender (25), Pradeep Kumar (26), Kishor Viswakarma (43), Ashok (45) and Nitu (35).

According to the complainant Amit, on 26 December evening, he along with his colleague Pankaj Tyagi was returning to his office in Babarpur by his car after collecting cash from Seelampur.

However, as he reached near his office, two masked men broke the glass of his car's window . They pointed a gun at him and his colleague and robbed of his bag, containing money. The accused fled on a motorcycle with their third associate.

"During investigation, police collected CCTV footage from Seelampur, Maujpur and Chhajjupur and some clues were developed. After getting information, police laid a trap on Signature Bridge Road and apprehended four persons,"said Atul Kumar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast).

However, second information was received regarding the co-accused and three others were arrested, he added.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Kumar, Verma and Chauhan, along with their associates planned the entire conspiracy to earn easy money.

"Pradeep, who used to work at the complainant's office shared the information with his associates regarding the money that Amit was carrying. After robbing Amit, the accused distributed the money among themselves at Jitender's house in Ghaziabad," said Thakur.

The police team recovered Rs 11.20 lakh, three country made pistols, 10 live cartridges and one motorcycle from their possession.
