A 60-year-old man shot his wife to death over delay in serving of his meal, in the Mansarovar Park area of Ghaziabad, on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Ashok Kumar. His wife was identified as Sunita, 55. The incident took place around 11 pm, when Kumar returned home in a drunk condition.

The two had been married for the last 30 years and have two children, who live in other cities. The couple had been living in the Mansarovar Park area for the last 12 years.

"Kumar was drunk and asked his wife for food. Sunita got a bit delayed and this led to an argument. An enraged Kumar then went to the other room, got his unlicensed country-made pistol, and fired at her," Neeraj Kumar Singh, SHO of Kavi Nagar police station, said.

The bullet hit Sunita in the head and she died on the spot. The accused was nabbed by the neighbours and handed over to the police.

"On hearing the sound of the bullet, we came out to check and saw Kumar holding a gun while Sunita was lying on the floor. He tried to flee but we overpowered him and handed him over to the police," Vikas Mehta, a neighbour, said.

Police have recovered the unlicensed gun from his possession. The body was sent for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the cops said they suspected some other reason behind the murder. "Delay in serving food can not be the only reason. We are investigating the case further," Singh said.
