5 hurt as IndiGo bus window shatters at IGI airport

All the five passengers were declared fit to fly after treatment and the police are looking into the matter.

In a freak incident, five people sitting inside IndiGo's shuttle service at the Indira Gandhi International airport's domestic terminal were injured when a glass of the bus shattered due to jet blast of a Spice Jet's aircraft standing nearby. The plane landed from Chandigarh.

All the five passengers were declared fit to fly after treatment and the police are looking into the matter. The Bureau of Civil Aviation was also alerted immediately about the incident that took place around 4.30 pm on Friday, and an inquiry has been initiated, sources said.

"Five passengers were injured, out of which three required medical assistance, and were rushed to Medanta clinic at the airport. Their condition was stated to be fine and they were declared fit to fly," said a senior officer from the airport.

All the three passengers, Yogesh Kumar, Astha Dixit and Iqbal Khan, who required medical assistance were accommodated on the next flight, the DCP, IGI, Snjay Bhatia said. He added that senior officers from both the airlines also visited the spot and a case under relevant sections was registered.

THE INCIDENT

According to airport officials, a SpiceJet flight SG253 that had arrived at the Delhi airport from Chandigarh was to be parked at bay number 6 near the apron in front of bay 17 where passengers were boarding an IndiGo coach for flight 6E191 for Mumbai.

The SpiceJet flight took a turn for bay number 6 and used the engine thrust which broke a glass of the window of the IndiGo bus(behind the driver's seat). It happened due to the SpiceJet aircraft's engine power thrust.
