Two bike-borne unidentified assailants shot a man dead in south-west Delhi's Sagarpur area late on Wednesday night. Police have identified the accused with the help of CCTV footage and suspect personal enmity behind the murder. No arrests, however, were made till late on Thursday.

The incident took place around 11.30 pm when the victim, Man Singh, 40, was heading home. Singh had also been involved in some criminal activities in the past. According to witnesses, two men on a bike stopped Singh on the Mangal Bazar Road.

"After a brief exchange of words, one of the men pulled out a pistol and opened fire. Singh collapsed and started bleeding profusely. The duo then fled from the spot. On hearing the gunshots, locals rushed to the spot and called the police. Singh, who was unconscious and had a gunshot injury on the left side of his chest, was taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. His body was sent for post-mortem and the family was informed," a senior police officer said.

Initial probe has revealed that during an altercation last year, Singh had injured a resident of the area, who was a known

criminal. DCP (south-west) Surender Kumar said, "The accused has been identified as Ghanshyam, 32, who had come on the bike as a pillion rider.

Initial probe has revealed that the reason for the murder was personal enmity, as Singh had earlier attempted to kill Ghanshyam twice. Two FIRs have also been registered in this regard."

A case of murder under IPC Section 302 has been registered and the matter is being probed.

"The CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to identify the other accused and trace the vehicle used. Singh's family members and friends are also being questioned to gather more information," the DCP said.
