A four-year-old girl, who was locked in her house on the tenth floor of a high-rise building in Indirapuram, on Monday evening, died after she fell while trying to peep through the balcony. The girl had just celebrated her fourth birthday two months ago and was eagerly awaiting her admission to a school next month, family members said.

The deceased, Myra Sachdeva, lived with her family — her parents and elder sister — in Jaipuria Sunrise Greens society. Police said the other members were not in the house at the time.

According to senior officers, the girl's father Manish Sachdeva, a property dealer, was away on work at the time of the incident and her mother Neha, a French teacher, had gone for her classes. Myra's elder sister Pari had also left the house to attend tuitions.

Residents of the society said that the incident came to light around 5.45 pm on Monday when a watchman heard a loud sound. Thinking that something had fallen off from some flat, he rushed to the spot. When he saw the girl lying in a pool of blood, he alerted others.

"The sound was so loud that I initially thought it was some construction material which had fallen. When I saw the child lying there dead, I was terrified. I immediately raised an alarm and informed the security in-charge," Pradeep, the security guard of the society told DNA.

The girl was rushed to Shanti Gopal Hospital by the security staff on a scooter while others made efforts to identify her, visiting every house in F Block where her family stayed. She was soon identified by the security in-charge and her parents were informed.

Meanwhile, at the hospital she was declared brought dead.

Family members said that Myra was asleep when her parents and elder sister left her alone. "They had no idea she would wake up and such an unfortunate tragedy would happen. Since the main door was locked, the child apparently went to the balcony to peep down. A chair was kept nearby which she might have dragged in to the balcony and climbed upon to look down. That is when she probably slipped and fell off," said Tanu, a relative of the deceased.

Senior police officers said that prima facie the accident is a mishap but details are being looked into.

The Sachdevas had been living in their rented apartment, flat number 1001 in F Block, for the past four months. They had moved in from another block of the same society.
