Four people received bullet injuries after several rounds were fired during a gang war in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area around 11pm on Sunday night. The incident has raised concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in the city.

According to the police, two groups had clashed over distribution of the money collected through a betting racket. Such rackets have been operating openly in the city, with the Gambling Act not being a strong deterrent for criminals.

Sources said a group of five men were sitting at a tea stall when four other men came on bikes, opened indiscriminate fire on them, and fled the spot. The five people ducked but four of them got severely injured.

“They sustained bullet wounds on their arms and legs. They were rushed to hospital. One of them said the other men belonged to a rival group, and they were fighting over distribution of the money collected through a betting racket,” a police officer said. The police also found that this group owed money to the four accused.

“We have identified two of the accused and will be arresting them soon. We have also accessed the CCTV footage from the spot, and raids are being conducted,” the officer added.
