35-year-old Shastri Park resident killed in Seelampur

A group of unidentified men shot a 35-year-old man to death while he was returning home after voting for the municipal elections in northeast Delhi's Seelampur area on Sunday. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the victim, too, had criminal cases registered against him, including of a murder. Cops suspect personal enmity behind the incident.

The deceased was identified as Rashid Khan, a resident of Shastri Park. The incident took place around 9 pm when Khan, who was returning home after casting his vote, stopped a little ahead of his house to meet a few of his neighbours.

"As soon as Khan left from there to meet another friend, a group of men approached him and rained bullets on him. He was hit by 3-4 bullets and collapsed on the spot, bleeding profusely. A bullet pierced his head, leaving him dead on the spot," a senior police officer said.

Locals heard the gunshots and rushed to the spot. A PCR call was made and Khan was rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. His body was sent for post mortem and the family members were informed.

"Khan was involved in some criminal cases, including of a murder. It is suspected that his murder was a fallout of personal enmity. CCTV footage is being checked and locals are being questioned to identify the assailants. The matter is being probed from all possible angles,"the officer said.
