35-year-old charred to death after car catches fire

A 35-year-old cab driver died after his vehicle caught fire in north-east Delhi's Harsh Vihar area, late on Tuesday night. Deceased Sachin Tyagi was on his way home when he parked his car near the Mandoli market. Just a few minutes before the tragedy, he had called up home and asked his family members to prepare dinner, as he had to head out for some work again.

According to the police, the incident took place around 10.30pm. The PCR and the Fire Department were immediately informed. After dousing the fire, when the fire brigade officials inspected the Tata Indigo car, they found Tyagi's charred body on the driver's seat. Eyewitnesses said the car was parked on the road side when they noticed smoke coming out it.

The central locking system of the car might have trapped the driver inside. "His seat belt was also intact. We identified him through the registration number of the vehicle. A case of death due to negligence under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the Harsh Vihar police station," a senior police officer said. Tyagi worked as a cab driver with a company in Noida and had dropped some people before proceeding towards his residence.

Meanwhile, an FSL team reached the location to gather evidence. Police are trying to ascertain the reason behind the fire. Family members of the deceased revealed that he was facing some issues with the vehicle and had complained about sounds coming from the car. The car had been bought just a year ago.
