A group of unidentified men rained bullets on a youth while he was returning home after playing a cricket match in outer Delhi's Najafgarh area on Sunday. The man, identified as Dinesh alias Mangu, 23, died on the spot. Police are suspecting personal enmity to be the motive behind the murder.

According to the cops, the incident took place around 2pm, when Dinesh and a friend were on a scooter. Witnesses told police that three men on another two-wheeler approached and opened indiscriminate fire on Dinesh, who was riding the pillion.

"Dinesh fell off the scooter and started bleeding profusely. The trio then started another round of firing and fled before the victim's shocked friend could raise an alarm. He then immediately called up the police, after which Dinesh was rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival," a senior police officer said.

Agitated by the incident, locals, including the family members of the deceased, staged a protest, demanding immediate arrest of the accused. Meanwhile, the body was sent for post-mortem.

"CCTV footage from all the nearby cameras is being checked to identify the accused or the vehicle they used. We suspect personal enmity and questioning the victim's family and friends to get more clues. The forensics team has collected the samples from the spot," a senior officer said.
