The Supreme Court on Monday heard several cases related to the 2G spectrum scam, including the matter of the removal of an honest officer Rajeshwar Singh, who was investigating on behalf of the Enforcement Directorate.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy said that he had raised the issue of the removal of the diligent officer last year itself.

"Today several matters came in the court connected with the 2G (scam) and particularly the matter I had raised late last year that one of the most diligent honest officer Rajeshwar Singh, who was investigating on behalf of the Enforcement Directorate on the money trail and the attachment of properties under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act was suddenly removed from the deputation he was," Swamy said.

During the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime, Rajeshwar Singh was removed from his office without any particular reason.

Swamy approached the apex court with Rajeshwar Singh's matter, which was taken up today.

Singh had had gone to the Central Administrative Tribunal and got an order in his favour. The direction said that he should be absorbed, following which the former UPA government went to the High Court against it but could not get a stay. Therefore, Swamy's plea was taken up by the Supreme Court today.

"The court heard in great detail our government, BJP government's Additional Solicitor General Nageshwar Rao's argument why Rajeshwar Singh should not be taken back, which is the exact stand of the UPA, which surprised me completely. But the court was not convinced and ordered that within three days, Rajeshwar Singh should be restored to the investigation in the 2G matters as well as Aircel-Maxis matters, and this order is a great victory for the fight in corruption," said Swamy.

"I would like our Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold an investigation. How is it that the BJP government replicated the stand of the UPA on this matter? This is a corruption matter and this should have got very serious notice," he added.
