A 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attacking a 21-year-old girl with a sword at her residence in South Delhi's Vasant Vihar area on Thursday night. Police said the incident took place on Wednesday night while they suspect the man attacked his girlfriend after she refused to accept his marriage proposal.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Harikant Mahaan, who used to own a gym. The accused was unemployed for the past few months. The two were in a relationship, police said.

Police said that on Wednesday night at around 10.15pm, Mahaan went to the residence of the victim.
"On Wednesday evening, the accused went to the girl's house in Vasant Vihar, where he spoke to her and left. At 10 pm, he visited the girl's home again. The duo were talking in the balcony and suddenly the family members heard her screams," said a senior police officer.
After hearing the screams, the parents rushed to the balcony and found their daughter lying on the floor and bleeding profusely. Police said that Mahaan attacked the girl with a sword in the stomach and after that fled the house.
The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital from where she was referred to the Safdarjung hospital where she is undergoing treatment now. The family of the girl said that although she is critical but doctors have said she is out of danger.
Police said that based on the complaint filed by the girl's parents, they had registered an FIR against the accused at the Vasant Vihar Police station under the relevant sections of the law.
