A 25-year-old postgraduate student at the University School of Management Studies (USMS) was found dead inside the washroom of his hostel room in East Delhi's Shahdara area on Wednesday morning. Sharath Prabhu was found unconscious in the washroom by his roommate. He was working at the GTB Hospital in the Medicine Department and hailed from Tamil Nadu.

According to the police, a call was received in morning from the hospital informing them about Prabhu's death. Prabhu shared his room with three other students. He had joined the college in May 2017 for MD (Medicine). On Wednesday morning, his roommate spotted him lying unconscious in the washroom. They rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The hospital authorities informed the police.

Prima facie, he is suspected to have died because of an overdose of insulin injection. Cops are probing if he had injected it himself or someone else had injected it into him. The forensics team was rushed to his room where empty bottles of potassium chloride and insulin were found.

Nupur Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shahdara, stated that future course of action will be decided after the autopsy report comes out on Thursday.

"I had a word with him around 9 pm on Tuesday night and he seemed to be fine. He was a hard-working student who had got good marks to secure the seat in this college. We, as a family, have raised him with a lot of care and affection but did not know we would have to see him like this one day," said Selvamani, Sharath Prabhu's father.

Speaking to DNA, Dr Sunil Kumar, Medical Director, GTB Hospital, said,"He was working in the Department of Medicine at our hospital. The case is being investigated by the Delhi Police and we are providing our full support to them. We are also waiting for the police to submit its report. Though I am aware of the empty insulin and potassium chloride found from his room but we are not sure whether it was taken from our hospital or not."
