Residents of north-east Delhi's Bhajanpura area were woken up by the shocking sound of bullets on Sunday night, when four armed assailants fired over a dozen rounds at two persons. While one of the victims died on the spot, the other one is recuperating at a city hospital. While police were exploring the personal enmity angle, locals alleged that this might have been a result of a gang war. Just as the cops were examining the crime scene, another such incident was reported from the Vijay Park area, where a 24-year-old man died after a dozen bullets were fired at him.
According to the police, in the first incident, victims Mohammad Wajid and Faiz were walking back home around 10 pm on Sunday when four persons showered bullets on them. Before the duo could even react, they collapsed on the ground. The incident took place in Lane Number-7 in Yamuna Vihar.
The four armed assailants were on two motorcycles. Wajid is stated to have received eight bullet wounds, whereas Faiz sustained around four bullet injuries. The duo were rushed to the GTB hospital, where Wajid was declared dead on arrival. He worked as a property dealer in the area and has criminal cases registered against him.
In the second incident, one Aarif, 24, was sleeping at his home in the Vijay Park area when he received a call and stepped out. The moment he came out, bullets were rained at him, leading to an instant death. Aarif is stated to have received around 14 bullet wounds.
The assailant apparently took advantage of the mob rushing to the spot and escaped. The incident has been captured on CCTV cameras in the area. The police are now investigating whether the two incidents were linked.
