Four people, including two assistant sub-inspectors of the Delhi Police, have been arrested on Thursday for allegedly looting 8.9 kg gold worth Rs 3 crore from a Mumbai-based jeweller and his marketing manager in Ghaziabad earlier this month. The police have recovered 6 kg of jewellery worth Rs 2 crore from their possession.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as ASI Satendra Singh and ASI Brahma Pal. The police said the other two, Ravi Kashyap and Shailendra Yadav, worked as informers who used to share the details of businessmen and other wealthy people.

"With the help of CCTV footages and local surveillance, the police arrested the accused while they were going to sell the robbed jewellery. Yadav was an employee at a Meerut-based jeweller and informed Satendra about the movement of Mumbai-based jeweller following which they committed the robbery" said Prashant Kumar, Additional director general of police (Meerut Zone).

The ADG said that the two arrested Delhi Police officers were also involved in a similar robbery about 10 years ago and another seven to eight years ago.

"The gang actively committed several similar robberies in Ghaziabad and Meerut areas in past 10 years. Satendra was also booked for an attempt to murder case in the Jahangirabad area of Bulandshahr in 2006 and also a case under sections of the Excise Act was also registered against him in the Tilaknagar police station in 2000" Kumar added.

"In view of the involvement of ASI Satendra Singh (posted at district line east district) and ASI Brahma Pal (posted at Gazipur) in the gold jewellery case of Ghaziabad, both of them have been placed under suspension. Further disciplinary action will be taken on receipt of written information from Ghaziabad police," said Omvir Singh, DCP(East).

On March 18, Rohit Jain, owner of Union Chains and Jewellers and his marketing manager Krishan had gone to Meerut after hiring a private cab from Delhi. While returning, the assailants intercepted their car and robbed them at gunpoint at an underpass near the Sahibabad railway station area.
