19-year-old woman sexually assaulted in Ghazipur area

A 19-year-old woman has alleged that she was raped by a middle-aged man in East Delhi's Ghazipur area. Police said that in a bid to save herself from the accused, the woman bit the man's finger making him bleed profusely. The accused, whose blood remains were collected from the victim's clothes, is yet to be arrested.

According to the police, the incident took place in Gadholi area where the woman, a class 11th student, had gone to meet a male friend. It was while walking towards the nearby Paper market, that a middle-aged man saw them and started hurling abuses at them, because of which the duo chose to part ways.

Taking advantage of her isolation, the man chased the woman and pinned her down near a drain and tried to rape her. It was then in her self-defence that she bit the man's finger. The bite was so strong that the man started bleeding and fled the spot.

Soon as he fled, the woman also managed to reach home and narrated her ordeal to the family, who in turn, called up the police and reported the crime.

Police said that the woman was then sent for medical examination which confirmed the sexual assault. Based on the description provided by her, police have prepared a sketch and efforts to nab him are underway.

Senior officers said that frequent raids are being conducted and CCTV footage from the area is also being checked to identify him.
