In a surprising revelation, despite over 12,000 complaints received against the Delhi Police officers in 2015, of which 346 were declared false, only 145 criminal cases were registered, according to the data released by Praja Foundation on Thursday. It further stated despite 145 criminal cases, no policeman was arrested.

The foundation revealed that the number of complaints received in 2015 against the police was 12,913 of which 346 were declared false. Only 145 criminal cases were registered but no police personnel got arrested. The Same year, of 1,057 cases registered against the police, 62% were either withdrawn or disposed of, while 69 were dismissed and in 292 cases major punishment was awarded, it said.

A number of incidents were reported in 2016 where rogue policing also came to light. In December 2016, a head constable was suspended after allegedly helping women pickpockets at a metro station when the act was caught in a CCTV camera. In the same month, a constable and five others, including three women were arrested for allegedly honey-trapping businessmen and government employees in Burari area. Two months ahead of this, in October, an inspector was suspended for his alleged involvement in a corruption case of fake coin manufacturing.

Apart from this, while in September, three cops from the Delhi Police's Special Cell were dismissed for extorting money, in August a head constable and two others were booked for carrying out unauthorised construction in Hari Nagar.

The data also mentioned that 50% of the respondents to crime do not feel secure in Delhi, whereas 60% do not feel that Delhi is secure for women, children and senior citizens."67% respondents from Chandni Chowk and South Delhi find Delhi to be unsafe/not secure for women, children and senior citizens. South district of Delhi Police recorded very high occurrence of molestation with women," it read.

57% of the respondents do not feel secure while travelling in Delhi, of which the highest number of respondents was of North East Delhi i.e. 63%, Praja data stated."A comparison between Delhi and Mumbai numbers (Annual Survey of Households), strictly going on people's perceptions, Delhi is not considered to be as secure by its residents," it stated.
