The accused entered the house on pretext of looking for keys and then asked for glass of water.
A 14-year-old girl was molested by her tenant, who entered the house on the pretext of asking for water on Wednesday evening in South Delhi's Sangam Vihar area. The girl immediately ran out of the home to save herself. When her mother returned home, she thrashed the accused before handing him over to the police.
The victim resides on the ground floor along with her parents and younger brother. On Wednesday afternoon, the victim's father, who works in the MCD, had left for work. The accused resides on the first floor along with his wife and their two-year-old girl.
"The wife of the accused and the mother's victim had gone to the nearby market to purchase some medicines. The accused generally would come back home from work by 4 pm but yesterday, he came home at 3 pm. He went to the victim's house to ask if his wife had kept the keys with them," said one of the neighbours.
The girl was alone at home when the incident occurred. The accused also asked her to give a glass of water. "While the girl went to get the glass of water, the accused groped the girl from the back. The girl freed herself and ran towards the other room and questioned his acts. He then again tried to hug her and touch her cheeks," said the neighbour.
In shock, the girl ran out and went to her friend's house in the adjoining lane. From there she called her mother and asked her to return immediately. After the mother returned, the girl broke down and narrated her ordeal to her after which the mother picked up a stick and caught hold of the accused on the first floor of their house. Meanwhile, the neighbours and locals also gathered and informed the police about the incident.
The accused was then handed over to the police. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012 was registered at Sangam Vihar police station.
