100 kilo of illegal firecrackers seized in Dwarka, five arrested by Delhi Police

Police have seized more than 3,850 kg of firecrackers in the national capital following the Supreme Court order on sale of old firecrackers.

Ahead of Diwali, the Dwarka district of Delhi Police have arrested five people for allegedly storing illegal crackers in the area on Monday. Police have recovered more than 100 kgs of crackers from their possession.

Police have seized more than 3,850 kg of firecrackers in the national capital following the Supreme Court order on sale of old firecrackers.

According to the police, on Monday, they received a specific information that a shopkeeper identified as Satish Katyal was storing illegal crackers. A checking was done and the accused was asked to show his license however the accused did not have it. "We have arrested him and have recovered 47 kgs crackers were recovered from his possession. It has also come to light that the accused was booked in the same offence last year also," said Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka).

Police raided four more different places following specific information about people illegally selling banned fire crackers.

"We managed to recover 22 kg of firecrackers under the jurisdiction of Uttam Nagar police station and arrested on Ajay Singh Rawat for selling illegal crackers. Another person was arrested having 6 and a half kg firecrackers in Dabri area on Sunday night," said Alphonse.

Police said that they raided another shop of Vivek Garg in Bindapur area for selling crackers without license and 15 kgs of cracker was recovered from the shop.

"Garg was arrested for selling the banned crackers. In another case of Dwarka south area we managed to recover 23 kg crackers and arrested the accused found in possession of the crackers," said Alphonse.
