The family of a 10-year-old child, who died on Saturday night, has accused three of his classmates of beating him to death. The family has alleged that the child was beaten up mercilessly on Friday and had sustained serious internal injuries.

The deceased was identified as Vishal, a Class V student, who lived with his family in Rohini, Sector 21. On Friday, after he returned from his school in the Begampur area, Vishal complained of pain in his neck and throat. When he woke up the next morning, he could barely speak because of the severe pain, after which he was rushed to hospital. From there, he was referred to the Safdarjung hospital. The child, however, succumbed on the way.

“According to the family, the child had told his mother that three of his classmates had beaten him in school,” a senior police officer said.

Vishal’s mother told the police that she did not feel the need to inform the police on Friday as he seemed normal and even had dinner before going to sleep.

DCP (Rohini) Rishi Pal said no external injury marks could be found on the child’s body. “On the family’s request, a post-mortem is being conducted. Accordingly, a case will be registered,” Pal said.
