There was high drama in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area when one person was shot at and five others were injured following an altercation between two groups. Police said that the argument was sparked off over the entry of a truck loaded with building materials to which some of the area’s residents had objected.

According to the police, the incident took place late on Wednesday night when a truck full of building material, which was entering Shantikunj locality, was stopped by some residents. On seeing this, a local resident identified as Harpal, claimed that he had called the truck for some construction work. The other group of residents, however, said that the road on which the truck was to pass from, was built with the money collected by all of them and that the road would break if the truck passed through it.

“This sparked an argument between two groups of residents and soon turned violent. One of the men, identified as Naresh, claimed that he was shot at by one of Harpal’s men and beaten brutally. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is under treatment,” said a senior police officer. Police said that a case of assault, attempt to murder and under other relevant sections has been registered and efforts are on to identify the miscreants. Police also said that they are checking CCTV footage to ascertain the identity of those involved.
