The police on Friday arrested a man who had helped the main accused in the double murder of a school principal and her brother in the Gummanhera area near Chhawla. The man had helped the main accused, Naveen, to arrange money for his marriage.

The 45-year-old woman, Anita Yadav, was shot dead on Monday, while her brother’s body was found on a remote stretch in Haryana on Tuesday morning.  The police in Dwarka had formed eight teams to probe the double murder.

“All the accused persons switched off their phones and had gone underground. Accordingly, many secret informers were deployed with specific briefings.  Several CCTV footages were analysed and traps were laid at various places during the drive. Surveillance was put up at several places and many suspects were interrogated. The team raided several places in Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh to nab the culprits. As the suspects belong to Amethi, Raibareily, Unnao etc, several places in these districts were also raided,” DCP Dwarka, Shibesh Singh said.

On Friday, one of the accused, Ranjeet was apprehended from Unnao. He confessed that he had helped Naveen in the murder as he was assured a hefty compensation. Efforts are being made to arrest his other accomplices.

“Ranjeet’s marriage was fixed, but a scarcity of money was his main concern. About 7-8 months ago, he came in contact with Sandeep, another accused in this case. Sandeep offered him a huge amount of money for carrying out or helping in the murder. The offer came at an opportune moment as he needed the money to get married.

Sandeep introduced him to Naveen and he was offered Rs 1 lakh. About a week prior to the murders, he along with Sandeep and Naveen came to Ghummanhera and carried out a recce. On March 3, they got the right opportunity and committed the murders, one by one. After the offence each accused escaped to different locations,” the DCP said.
