In the first ODI against the West Indies on Friday, India would've hoped to put in a performance that would make fans forget the unceremonious exit of Anil Kumble as the head coach. But the rain gods hovering above the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain had other ideas.
After being asked to bat first by Windies skipper Jason Holder, India did well to get to 199 for 3 from 39.2 overs, with Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane opening the innings and stroking impressive half-centuries. Rain, however, played spoilsport and made sure that not a single ball was bowled after that.
The visitors could take solace in the fact that a few of their batsmen got decent hits out in the middle, including captain Virat Kohli who remained unbeaten on 32. But with the second ODI scheduled at the same venue on Sunday, fans will surely be worried about the fate of this five-match series.
