Often when batsmen get out they find fault with their own shot or technique. Sometimes they admit it was great ball, but swear they will be not repeat the mistake next time. But when James Vince got out on Sunday to a Mitchell Starc ball, he said, "If I faced that another 20 or 30 times, I think that would get me out every time."

Such was the ball that Mitchell Starc bowled on the fourth day of the WACA test on Sunday, that the first reaction was 'absurd'.

Soon Shane Warne, the man who bowled the ball of 20th century, wrote, “Ball of the Ashes and possibly the ball of the 21st century too. Starc is on fire here in the west!”.

Warne, however, corrected himself, “Ball of the #Ashes & the summer. Starc is on fire here at the WACA !!!!”.

New Zealand’s Jimmy Neesham wrote, “That Vince wicket ball would’ve dismissed every batsman in the history of the game. Not often you can say that”.

Wasim Akram, one of the finest left-arm bowlers the game has ever produced, said, “That’s called a JAFFA! What a delivery Starc you reminded me of my bowling days and I enjoyed it to the hilt! You made left armers proud!”

It came in the 30th over of England’s second innings. Starc got the ball to pitch on middle stump, before seaming away late past a set Vince’s bat to rattle the stumps. Vince was batting on 55, playing rather well but there was nothing he could do about it.
