Ambati Rayudu who was called India's first-choice No.4 by captain Virat Kohli a few months ago has not been selected to be part of the World Cup squad. The reason for his omission is said to be his low scores in the home series against Australia last month.

Vijay Shankar, on the other hand, played well since the Australia and New Zealand tour and grabbed the much-debated number four slot for the World Cup.

While a lot of talks have been going around since the BCCI announced the squad, all awaited the Hyderabad batsman's reaction. The man has finally spoken but has come up with a sarcastic message on Twitter.

He indirectly took a dig mentioning about ordering the 3D glasses to watch the mega-event from home. “Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup,” Rayudu’s tweet read.

Ambati Rayudu 's case:

After the Windies series last year, Virat Kohli had said that Rayudu was the perfect number four for the team. The batsman had even given up red-ball cricket to concentrate on the limited-overs format.

His form, however, went downhill and he failed to perform in Australia and New Zealand. The bad phase continued in the home series against Australia as is going on in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

"We did give a few more chances to Rayudu but Vijay Shankar gives three dimensions. He can bat if the conditions are overcast, he can bowl, plus he is a fielder. We are looking at Vijay Shankar as a No. 4," chief selector MSK Prasad said Tuesday, justifying his selection.

Prasad's view was seconded by former captain Sunil Gavaskar, who called Shankar a "very handy cricketer".

Rayudu’s hopes are, however, not entirely finished as an injury to any player can get him back to the squad before May 23.
