India beat Australia in their Group B tie of the ICC Women's World T20 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Saturday.

Opener Smriti Mandhana notched up her career-best score of 83 runs before the spinners set up a 48-run win. India topped the group with four wins in the group stage.

This is only the third time an Indian team has won all the matches in the group stage at World Cups (50-over or T20 competitions). The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side emulated the feat of men's cricket team led by MS Dhoni in 2014 and 2015.

Indian women defeated New Zealand, Ireland, Pakistan and finally Australia in Group B finishing with wins in all the games and emerging as the group leader.

The men's team had won all their group matches (four) in 2014 World T20 and in 2015 World Cup (six matches). Both these sides were led by MS Dhoni.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur said that her team is bound to perform well because of the quality in the side which was proved during their thumping 48-run win against Australia in the final group league encounter of the ICC Women's World T20.

India were already in semifinals after winning their first three matches but didn't let the intensity down against the formidable 'Southern Stars' in an inconsequential last group league encounter.

"When you have a good team, you have to perform well," Harmanpreet said at the end of the match on Saturday.
